6.5.1

6.5.2

Proportion of transboundary basin area with an operational arrangement for water cooperation

Definition

SDG indicator 6.5.2 measures the share of a country’s transboundary water area that is covered by an operational cooperation agreement with neighbouring countries. A transboundary basin is a river, lake or groundwater area that crosses national borders.

In Denmark, this concerns one shared water area namely the Vidå-Kruså basin shared between Germany and Denmark. There is a formal cooperation agreement between Denmark and Germany on managing  the shared water resources in the Vidå-Kruså basin.

The indicator is based on a questionnaire to national agencies responsible for water resources. In Denmark this agency is the Agency for Green Transition and Aquatic Environment under the Ministry of Green Transition. Source: FN global SDG database.
