Classification by function in the Statistical Business Register (SBR), v2:2007

Classification by function are used for sector breakdowns of workplaces. Function codes allow for a delimitation between private and public sectors in accordance with the international agreements established in the System of National Accounts (SNA).

Classification by function is replaced from January 1st 2013 by Sector Codes, in accordance with ESA 2010 (European System of Accounts), where the sector location is primarily determined by who has organizational control over the unit. This is new compared to the function code, where a unit was sector-based primarily by the financing of the activity in the unit.
