Description:

Degree of Urbanization (DEGURBA) is a classification that divides local administrative units (municipalities) by population density. The classification follows Eurostat's Degree of Urbanization (DEGURBA) and is divided into the following thee categories:

Cities (densely populated areas):

  • At least 50% of the population lives in urban centres.

Towns and suburbs (intermediate density areas):

  • At least 50% of the population lives in urban clusters and
  • Less than 50% of the population lives in urban centres.

Rural areas (thinly populated areas):

  • At least 50% of the population lives in rural grid cells.
