    New Framework Programme signed

Statistics Denmark and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signed a new agreement to continue and expand the Strategic Sector Cooperation covering the period from 2024-2027. , 15 February 2024 15:00 , By , Klaus Munch Haagensen,  , The expected long-term impact of the framework agreement is that decision making and progress on the green transition in partner countries will be more relevant, effective, equitable and just, because it is driven by strong evidence based practice., As part of the new framework agreement Statistics Denmark will continue to work with the national statistical institutions in Ghana, Morocco and Vietnam. In addition, Statistics Denmark will expand our cooperation to a fourth country, which is yet to be identified.  , Statistics Denmark will as the only institution also receive funding to assist other Strategic Sector Cooperations to include elements of data and statistics in their project.,   ,  , Statistics Denmark will work with three strategic outcomes: , strengthening technical capacity , supporting a just green transition, and , strengthening public-private partnerships.  ,  , The first outcome is much in line with traditional capacity building activities within the area of statistics. It is largely focused on statistics supporting a just green transition including the compilation of the System of Environmental Economic Accounts (SEEA) and the fundamental statistics needed to establish these accounts. SEEA enables us to see how our environment and economy interact and thus allow decision makers to have a solid basis for coming decisions. They also enable citizens to follow progress, and ensure that all countries can compare progress - or the opposite - using the same standards. , Outcome two requires efforts that are more diplomatic and strategic in nature with the aim of establishing relationships with and between stakeholders in society and ensure that NSIs are seen as trusted data providers. To succeed, Statistics Denmark work closely with the Danish Embassies in our partner countries. , Outcome three aims at promoting Danish societal solutions that have been developed through partnerships between the public and private sector. Solutions that either directly or indirectly could have an impact on the quality, the speed and efficiency in the production of statistics, which then ultimately can support the green transition., You can read more about our international projects here

    Building statistical capacity

Statistics Denmark has participated in statistical capacity building in various countries for the past 20 years. We work closely with partner institutions and tailor advice to local needs and conditions while aspiring to international standards., Why statistics are important, A country needs statistics to describe its social, economic and environmental conditions in order to improve the lives and opportunities of its citizens. Statistics thus play an important role in planning, governing and developing societies. Statistics provide the information needed for policy-makers to make evidence-based decisions, for citizens to form opinions and hold government accountable, for businesses to make sound decisions, and for researchers to analyse society., Meeting both national and international needs for statistics, The national statistical institution plays a central role in producing official statistics. The institution must be professional and independent from the political system and have the capacity to produce impartial, relevant, reliable, timely and comparable statistics of high quality. Producing statistics for national needs as well as international monitoring of among others the Sustainable Development Goals are important tasks. This requires a competent and professional national statistical institution which is competently staffed and sufficiently funded., International cooperation, Statistics Denmark has participated in statistical capacity building in various countries for the past 20 years. We work closely with partner institutions and tailor advice to local needs and conditions while aspiring to international standards. The close cooperation with our partner ensures a high degree of ownership for the projects and creates lasting results. Our goal in capacity building is to achieve sustainable change through knowledge transfer and practical advice. Our staff transfers knowledge on the topics they work with on a daily basis. This ensures discussions on an equal level and a mutual understanding between our staff and the staff in the partner institution., Our expertise, We participate in capacity building projects in all aspects of the statistical production from data collection to processing of data to dissemination of statistics to users. We work with social, economic and business statistics. We can also build capacity on issues like quality management, administrative data sources, legislation, IT infrastructure and databases, and coordination of the national statistical system. We have experience from countries in East Europe, Caucasus, the Middle East, Central Asia, South East Asia and Africa., Financing, Our involvement in building statistical capacity is either financed by international institutions like the European Union and the World Bank or by bilateral donors. Our projects are designed in close cooperation with the partner institution and the funding agency to ensure local needs are met. , Read more on building statistical capacity (pdf),

For 2013 the statistic was published 11 February 2014., Read more about statistical processing, Relevance, Municipalities, regions, ministries, organizations, research institutions, private enterprises, news media and individuals are among the users., Read more about relevance, Accuracy and reliability, Emigration numbers are systematically underestimated. This is due to the fact that many people move abroad without telling the authorities. It is the municipalities who are responsible for the maintenance of the CPR. The correct numbers for emigration is estimated to be about 15-20 percent higher than the published., A similar problem is not an issue for immigration where the underestimation is about 1-2 percent., Therefore it is not possible to have a correct measure for net migration simply by subtracting emigration from immigration. That would overestimate net migration., Persons who take up residence in Denmark without being registered in the CPR are not included among immigrated in the statistic., Asylum seekers are not included among immigrated in the statistic. It is only when they get a residence permit and are registered in the CPR that they will counted as immigrated., Read more about accuracy and reliability, Timeliness and punctuality, These statistics are published approximately 6 weeks after the end of the reference period. These statistics have always been published as planned., Read more about timeliness and punctuality, Comparability, There is a break in the series in 2007, where a new way of calculating the annual immigration and emigration was introduced.
