      Experimental statistics

      Experimental statistics are statistics that are in development, so that methods and sources may change in the process towards the final form of the statistics based on experiences, e.g. in the form of feedback from users. , In what ways do they differ from Statistics Denmark’s usual statistics? , In general, any statistics published by Statistics Denmark are official statistics. However, experimental statistics are not regarded as official statistics until they have been thoroughly tested to the point where they obtain a permanent form and a new status as official statistics. , It appears from the individual sets of statistics whether they have experimental status. The statistical documentation explains specifically what the experimental status of the individual set of statistics involves. It could be e.g. that the methods are not quite thoroughly tested, that new data sources are being tested, or that in its preliminary form, it only covers part of the intended area. , Which experimental statistics does Statistics Denmark publish? , Experimental statistics are gradually being developed to meet the demand of users. This page presents an overview of these, but in general, the individual sets of statistics can be found under the relevant subject pages or subjects in Statbank Denmark. , Is the uncertainty higher, and should you take special precautions when using it? , Limitations and reservations vary between the different sets of statistics and appear from the statistical documentation for each set of statistics. , Why does Statistics Denmark publish experimental statistics? , The purpose of experimental statistics is to respond to user requests for timely indicators of the development of society. Using more and more new sources and methods, we can create timely statistics in areas where the official and quality-checked statistics often have a time lag of months or perhaps years. Publishing the statistics in a preliminary form allows us to get feedback from the users, before we have found the final form, and thus gives us a more relevant product. At the same time, it gives the users an opportunity to become familiar with the statistics. , For instance, the experimental statistics could be a key indicator of a phenomenon that we describe through official statistics (e.g. Statistics Denmark developed a number of experimental statistics as indicators of the development of Covid-19).       The model ADAM

      ADAM (Annual Danish Aggregate Model) is a macroeconomic model developed by the macroeconomic modelling unit of Statistics Denmark. The model gives a simplified mathematical description of the interactions in the Danish economy., The main users of ADAM are the Danish ministries of finance and of economic affairs. In addition a number of interest organisations and financial institutions use the model., It is important that the model is empirically based and most of the behavioral equations are estimated on national accounts data. ADAM is characterised by being a large and disaggregated model., The model is constantly developed and changes are collected in model versions published on average every second year.       Data banks

      ADAM's data bank contains economic key figures which give a suitable and detailed description of the Danish economy. It contains more than 3000 key figures on an annual basis covering the period from the most recent national accounts year back to 1966. The data bank is produced for model use and the time series are therefore consistent and cleared for breaks in data. , The data bank contains data from national accounts, labour market, public finances and financial key numbers.       Forecasts

      The model group makes forecasts for the users of ADAM at least twice a year. Usually a forecast is timed with and based on the Danish government's own forecast. Typically these are published in January, June and August. , The modelling groups forecast is based on the latest historical bank. In the first years the forecast is adapted the governments economic business cycle report (Økonomisk redegørelse), after which it is adjusted to fit the governments convergence programme., For more information contact, Economic models,

      Multiplier analysis

      As part of testing and analysing the model a set of , standard multipliers, , , first year effects,  and a , collection of examples, is presented with every model version. These give a broad overview of the analysis possibilities of ADAM. Multipliers are used to analyse the effects of economic and political changes.  A demand shock in ADAM affects both production, employment and consumption in the short run. In the long run the effect on employment disappears. In contrast, a supply shock will have a permanent effect on employment. This is in line with most models of small open economies with a fixed exchange rate policy and a Phillips curve. , In principle, there is no automatic monetary or fiscal policy reaction function in ADAM. This aspect should be taken into consideration in the comparison with other economic models. Furthermore the specific danish laws and rules modelled in ADAM could be important when comparing with models for other economies. , For every new model version a series of standard experiments are produced to enable the analysis of the model characteristics. At the same time, the experiments makes it possible to compare the characteristics of the new model version with previous ones. All multiplier analysis are based on a base line representing a solution with respect to the endogenous variables based on a stylized forecast of the exogenous variables. , standard multipliers,  are made by changing one or a few of the exogenous variables and afterward calculating the effect on the endogenous variables. , first year effects,  represents the short run.
