17.2.1: Official development assistance

Definition

The indicator follows UN methodology and  shows Denmark's contribution to official development assistance. Official development assistance has the primary purpose of promoting economic development and welfare. The recipient must be classified as a developing country, the donor must be a public authority and the development aid must contain a grant element of at least 10 per cent. Until 2017, the total net development aid was measured as the actual money flows between donor and recipient countries. From 2018, the indicator is calculated as a grant-equivalent of the total net development aid. The new method of calculation provides a more fair measurement of donor countries' actual efforts.
