About the name statistics
The statistics are based on the births taking place during a year and show which names have been given to the new babies. The name search covers the period from 1985 to the present. The statistics use data from the civil registration system (CPR). For children born before 1996, the statistics only include Danish nationals. Different spellings of the same name (such as Anni and Annie) appear separately. For reasons of discretion, the exact number is not shown in case of names held by fewer than three persons.

There will always be a delay of approximately six months, as parents have six months to report the chosen name to the civil registration system (CPR). This means that not until July do we know what the most popular first names were for babies born the preceding year. The statistics are published mid-July.
