Foreign affiliates

The statistic is an annual survey of Danish affiliates abroad that are full or partial controlled by a Danish parent company. The data reported includes the location (country), industry, employment, staff costs, net turnover and additions to tangible fixed assets of these foreign affiliates.

Below you can download an overview of all the questions in the survey – as a draft or in preparation of your report:

NOTE: The draft may contain questions that are not displayed to all companies in the digital reporting solution.

The typical time spent per report is approximately 15 minutes – depending on the number of foreign affiliates.

This is how you report:

You must follow reporting method A or B, depending on the number of foreign affiliates your company controls:

1. If you have up to five foreign affiliates, all of which are pre-filled in the digital reporting solution.
2. If you have six or more foreign affiliates and/or one or more foreign affiliates that are not pre-filled in the digital reporting solution.

NOTE: You can find information on the pre-filled foreign affiliates once you are logged in.

A) If you have up to five foreign affiliates, all of which are pre-filled in the digital reporting solution:

• Click on "Start reporting" above and log in using MitID Erhverv.
• Click on the link with the reporting period.
• Follow the instructions in the digital reporting solution.
• Fill in the missing information.
• Submit your report.
• Save the receipt and, if necessary, a copy of your report.

B) If you have six or more foreign affiliates and/or one or more foreign affiliates that are not pre-filled in the digital reporting solution:

• Click on "Start reporting" above and log in using MitID Erhverv.
• Click on the link with the reporting period.
• Follow the instructions and the link in the digital reporting solution.
• Log on DST DataDialog with MitID Erhverv.
• Download the pre-filled spreadsheet for reporting.
• Fill in and save the spreadsheet on your PC or tablet.
• Click on "Start reporting" above and log in using MitID Erhverv.
• Click on the upload icon  (instead of the link with the reporting period).
• Choose the file that you have saved on your PC or tablet and press "Upload".

Business proxy agreement

With a business proxy agreement, the duty of reporting can be transferred to another company, an auditor or an administrator. You can find assistance with business proxy agreements here: Virk help – Business proxy agreements (in Danish).

Once the proxy agreement is established, the company can locate the CVR number that they have to report for, on their overview. See instructions on how to switch between CVR numbers here: Report via proxy on Virk (in Danish - PDF).

Reporting is mandatory by law

Due to EU legislation, Denmark is required to produce a range of business statistics.

Act on Statistics Denmark, Section 8-12a obliges companies to report data for statistical use.

The number of companies required to report

Each year, Statistics Denmark requests approximately 6,000 companies to submit mandatory reports for this statistic.

How are the companies selected?

All Danish companies that have full or partial control over foreign affiliates are obliged to report annually.

Companies can voluntarily report the time spent completing the online form. Companies typically spend approximately 15 minutes on this survey – including access, data retrieval, data entry and necessary support. The time required from each company, depends on the number of foreign affiliates. Based on the typical time spent per report, the total time spent by companies is estimated to be 1,076 hours per year.
